Description

Cognitive Credibility Assessment is a verbal lie detection tool that exploits differences between truth tellers and liars in their cognitive processing and strategies they use to appear convincing. It consists of three clusters interview techniques: (i) imposing cognitive load, (ii) encouraging interviewees to say more and (iii) asking unexpected questions. This webinar introduces these three clusters together with the empirical evidence that it results in an accuracy rate of around 75% in discriminating truth tellers and liars.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Summarize three clusters of interview techniques to differentiate truth tellers from liars.
  2. List the preferred strategies used by truth tellers and liars to appear convincing in interviews.
  3. List the most diagnostic verbal cues to deceit.

Cost:

  • $40 for members, including Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluators (CFMHEs), CFMHE applicants/candidates, and members of all associations partnering with NBFE (see Professional Partners link for full listing)
  • $50 for non-members
