National Board of Forensic Evaluators
Certified Forensic Mental Health Consultant
The CFMHC credential is designed to to certify licensed mental health professionals (psychologists, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, counselors, clinical social workers, and marriage and family therapists) who have attained expert status in reviewing and critiquing forensic mental health evaluations and offering related expert witness testimony and/or consultation for attorneys, judges, and other stakeholders in the court system. In addition to expertise in the fundamentals of forensic mental health evaluation, CFMHCs have demonstrated an advanced familiarity with (1) practice standards impacting forensic mental health evaluation, (2) analysis of research impacting forensic mental health published in peer-reviewed journals, and (3) implementation of forensic mental health practice standards in forensic evaluation and expert witness testimony.
Requirements:
- To ensure that CFMHC candidates have already demonstrated competency in forensic mental health evaluation and are appropriately vetted, applicants must be Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluators (CFMHEs)
- Successful completion of NBFE's 6-hour Forensic Mental Health Consultant Workshop
- Successful completion of the following “on demand” counting education webinars: (a) The Forensic Mental Health Consultant: Assisting the Attorney: Understanding & Discrediting the Forensic Mental Health Evaluation (2.0 CE hours); (b) Sound Preparation to Avoid Disqualification as an Expert (2.0 CE hours), and (c) Tips for Enhancing Your Forensic Mental Health Practice (2.0 CE hours)
- A score of 70% or higher on NBFE's 100-question forensic mental health consultation written examination (to be completed virtually in 3 hours or less)
